Acupuncture, gently done

Acupuncture is one of the oldest parts of Chinese medicine: very fine needles at chosen points to ease pain, calm the nervous system and help the body recover. At the clinic, every session starts with listening to you.

Your first visit

We begin with your history, the pain or problem in your own words, and a short examination. Dr. Issa then explains the plan, where the needles will go and what you may feel, before anything starts.

During a session

You lie comfortably while the needles are placed, then rest while they work. Some patients feel warmth or heaviness; many simply relax. The needles are removed gently and you carry on with your day.

What it can help with

Acupuncture is most often sought for pain, nerve problems and stiffness, and can also ease sinus and allergy symptoms.

  • Lower back pain
  • Neck & shoulders
  • Knee pain
  • Headache & migraine
  • Sciatica
  • Numbness & tingling
  • Frozen shoulder
  • Sinus congestion

Safe and clean

Sterile, single-use needles, disposed of after every session. Tell us about any medication, including blood thinners, and about pregnancy, so your treatment can be adapted.

Acupuncture, answered

Does it hurt?

Most people feel a brief, light prick, then a dull heaviness or warmth around the point. The needles are far finer than the ones used for injections.

How deep do the needles go?

Anywhere from a few millimetres to a few centimetres, depending on the point and the area. Dr. Issa tells you what to expect before the first needle.

Can I go back to work afterwards?

Yes, most people carry on with their day as normal. Some feel pleasantly tired, so drink some water and take it easy if you can.

Does acupuncture replace my doctor?

No. It works alongside medical care. Keep taking any prescribed medication unless your doctor says otherwise, and let us know what you take.
